'homophobia is a persistent, irrational fear of gay or lesbians. many people with homophobic attitudes feel justified in treating gay men and lesbians rudely, discriminating against them, or even acting violently toward them. homophobic individuals usually typically have rigid personalities and attitudes and cannot tolerate any deviation from views of what is normal or appropriate behavior. interestingly, many homophobics people cliam to have had no direct contact with gay people, so their belief are not based on actual experiences.'
